Only a few kilometres south of the former Roman provincial capital of Carnuntum, a Roman cemetery with 208 cremations and 49 inhumations was archaeologically excavated in Mannersdorf am Leithagebirge. It was in continuous use from the end of the 1st century AD until the beginning of the 5th century AD, and thus provides an insight into burial customs and grave goods in a rural cemetery over more than 300 years.
