Die Ausgrabungen in der Wiener Stallburg 2004/2005. Teil 1: Urgeschichte und Römische Kaiserzeit
As the home of the Spanish Riding School with its world-famous Lipizzaner stallions, the Stallburg is not only a prominent part of the Vienna Hofburg, but also an archaeological hotspot thanks to its location in the heart of Vienna's old town. Extensive excavations were carried out in the inner courtyard of the Stallburg in 2004 and 2005 as part of a planned construction project, which brought to light relics from around 5000 years of human activity in the area. The first volume on the results of these archaeological investigations presents the prehistoric and Roman features and finds. In addition to two Copper Age burials, the focus here is on the remains of around 150 years of Roman settlement activity in this area of the camp suburb of Fort Vindobona. // Digital part available via link below.
