Moneta Imperii Romani (MIR) was founded by RobertnGöbl at the Numismatische Kommission at the Öster-nreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften. Its aim isnthe systematical incorporation of the Imperial coinage ofnRome from Augustus up to the great coin reform ofnDiocletianus. In comparison to conventional cataloguesnand the internationally standard work of reference,nRoman Imperial Coinage (RIC), MIR also aims tonreconstruct the connection between the issues and tonput the various coin types and denominations intoncontext according to material, chronology, economy andntheme. The minting structure of Emperors Valerianus I,nGallienus and Saloninus (253/268) as presented by Göblnhas opened up a further chapter of Roman coin and currency history, which in turn represents a valuable contribution to thenresearch of the history of the Imperium Romanum in the second half of the 3rd century. A total of 52 coin tables form the main part of the study, in which the material within the individual mints is divided according to chronological sequence and issue. Each coin type and denomination can be citednindividually and are supplemented by drawings in a separate section.nThe practical value is further enhanced by a reversentype-atlas, in which the individual reverse designs of the Valerian-Gallienian family are documented with the aid of drawings. more...
