230 historiographic works, primarily from the 13th century, are examined for their relationship to Emperor Frederick II. The Staufer emperor appears as a protagonist or participant in historiographic works that range from historical exegesis to compendia, catalogues of popes and emperors and exemplary history, in the annals and chronicles of the Italian city-states, in the territorial historiography of Germany, Sicily, The Outremer and France.
