Definitely, the Melk Benedictine Bernhard Pez (1683-1735) and his brother Hieronymus (1685-1762) are two of the most eminent historiographers of the baroque era. Their studies on medieval manuscript and diplomatic sources, above all in Southern Germany and Austria, have only partly found their way into their publications, printed in their lifetime. A history of literature of the Benedictine order (Bibliotheca Benedictina Generalis), planned by Bernhard Pez, was never finished. Copies made from medieval manuscripts for this purpose by himself or by correspondents are still preserved in Melk. In the 19th century, al large part of these documents and materials was bound to 60 codices which are still held in the library of Melk abbey. In the present volume, for the first time, these manuscripts are described and presented in detail. The catalogue focusses on the identification of the models (exemplars) used for the Melk copies, scattered all over Europe. This publication may be of use to historians, philologists, theologians and librarians.
