The University Library of Graz holds the second largest public collection of medieval manuscripts in Austria. Most of these books derive from the library of the Jesuits in Graz and the libraries of secularized monasteries of the region. The present catalogue exploits that part of the collection which is of art historical interest. 122 descriptions of manuscripts from the 15th and 16th centuries, short presentations of 52 illuminated incunables and 80 manuscripts with minor decoration provide access to this important corpus of visual media. Together with 812 color reproductions and 68 reproductions in black and white, an impression is given of late medieval monastic book production and of the output from the most important centers for book illumination in Austria, South Germany and Bohemia.
