Probably under the bibliophilic abbot Dominik Gußmann (1747-1777) numerous medieval manuscripts, which were originally part of the Vienna University Library, got to the Library of the Benedictine abbey Seitenstetten (Lower Austria) on paths up to now unkown. Today 48 of these manuscripts are still preserved in the abbey’s library showing the University Library’s former mark. These volumes, dating from the 10th to the 16th century, are very important sources for the medieval history of the “Alma Mater Rudolphina” and Austria’s intellectual history in general. Nevertheless they have – just as the whole library in Seitenstetten – never been systematically investigated. The forthcoming volume contains short descriptions of the mentioned 48 manuscripts presenting the most important information, especially concerning their contents. On the basis of other notes by former owners of the manuscripts it is possible to trace their history a long way back. Detailed indices of places, persons, texts and initia complete the volume
