The anonymous homiliary, written about 900, that in two later codices is attributed to a „Luculentius“ or „Luculentus“, has been detected in two nearly complete manuscripts and described by Joseph Lemarié. The present book contains an edition of selected homilies not yet edited, a comprehensive introduction and a commentary., that focuses on the knowledge and use of sources by the compilator. In this respect the „Luculentius“ homiliary is a typical representative of later Carolingian exegetial literature. Beside the Latin Church Fathers and Bede the Venerable, the author makes use of a variety of medieval authors, foremost amongst whom are Haymo of Auxerre and Smaragdus of St. Mihiel. Partly through its medieval antecedents, partly through oral and/or school tradition, the text also participates in the anonymous Early Medieval tradition of exegetial glosses and gloss commentaries that has been connected with Irish scholarship. more...
