The “Bibliographie der Flechten und flechtenbewohnenden Pilze in Österreich” (TÜRK & POELT 1993) is an attempt to present an overview of the literature covering all ecological groups of lichens in Austria. This foundation compilation covers floristic publications, regional monographs of lichens, systematic monographs of genera and families and exsiccata. In additon, 462 published papers were reviewed and are the source for additional data on the distribution of lichens in Austria. The synonyms of many taxa are also given as an aid to interpreting the older literature. The references are in chronological order and given together with the page numbers on which they are cited. Further important information is given on the occurrence of the lichens in the various provinces of Austria, their altitudinal distribution and their substrates.
