The publication at hand dealing with the on-site findings and features from a dug well and an excavation in front of the Praefurnium of the Hamam III in Ayasuluk/Ephesos and its interpretation provides information about a so far unknown burial, which provides interesting information in different aspects. The two human individuals which were buried in the dug well together with a noble riding horse and a dog at the mid of the 15. century after they had obviously been defiled as well as the two horses’ skulls on both sides in front of the Praefurnium of the bath, which was already abandoned at that time, have to be understood in a context of shamanism, which was already documented regarding the Turkic peoples during the pro-ottoman period and traces back to old roots. This feature highlights the historic and cultural changes which were characteristic for the beginning of Ottoman ruling in Ayasuluk. The individual groups of artefacts were analyzed in close cooperation of archaeology, anthropology, historic veterinary medicine and chemistry. Consequently the spectrum of problems resulting out of the findings are presented in a comprehensible way. Although the presented interpretations are partially of hypothetical character the publication of this interesting findings ahead of the presentation of the final results of the bath seems appropriate, as by doing so further questions will gain new momentum. more...
